  • Vegas will not import video from my AVCHD camcorder

I recently purchased a Sony HDR-SR12 camcorder and for the first time went to edit the footage I had took. I bought Sony Vegas Platinum edition for editing with this camera… Anyway when I went to Import from AVCHD Camcorder and error came up and said:
The file could not be opened. Make sure the file exists and that you have access to the file/folder.
I even tried importing the MTS files. Why is this happening???

It is important that I get this working.

Is there anyway to convert the files without losing any quality and keeping the 5.1 audio???

    Thanks.

    Try re-installing Vegas Platinum….

FWIW, have edited footage off that camera without any hiccups, on both Vegas Studio 9 and Pro 8. Did capture using non-vegas app (don’t ask) and then simply dropped files on timeline.

point is, it does work normally…………

Make sure that you have the latest updates to whatever version of Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum edition that you have.

That’s the beauty of digital video; there is no conversion required. You can just drag and drop the files from the camera HDD right onto your PC hard drive and use them in Movie Studio. Just make sure your project is set up for 5.1 Surround.

    Still not working…
Could this be an issue with Windows Vista and permissions???

I installed Vegas on another computer and the videos worked…
But I cannot use that computer, So why did it work on that computer and not myn?

The working computer had Windows XP. My computer has windows vista.
