  • Anyone using a JVC deck with 8.1 and Vista 64?????

I hope no one minds if I start another thread on this but I felt it needed another header…thinking surely someone is getting their JVC deck to work with 8.1:

When selecting OHCI compliant IEEE 1394/DV under preview device and then selecting preview on external monitor 8.1 locks up and won’t respond.
Windows can’t find a driver my JVC SR-VS30 connected via firewire.
It somehow knows what it is because it lists the name but says it can’t find the driver. In device manager it’s listed under imaging devices (and states it is working properly under properties). It’s also listed under other devices with an exclamation point and states This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.)

JVC support says it’s a Windows issue (of course) but I can’t seem to find any way to resolve the problem after hours of research.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Randy

8.1 and Vista 64 see my JVC BR-DV-3000 with no problems — sorry I can’t offer any suggestions.

Well I would think that is good news. The SR-VS30 is a popular deck I find it hard to believe no owners here or over at the SCM forum have replied yet.
I have a support request in to Windows…I guess they are my last hope.
Thanks for your encouraging post Fredrick,
    Randy

Fredrick, can you tell me what drivers are showing up for it in Device Management please?

Not at my machine right now — as soon as I get there I will check it out and get back to you.

I have fired up my Vista 64 Video machine and it seems to be talking to the JVC deck using the standard microsoft OHCI drivers. (1394.sys 6.0.6000.16386) Vista RTM 6.1101-2205. It seems to be using the same drivers when I hook my Panasonic camera up to the firwire port, so I think it’s just stock drivers, nothing special. If you need me to look deeper or if there is something I am missing, let me know.

    Thanks for your reply Fredrick,
I searched for Vista RTM 6.1101-2205 under C:\Windows and nothing shows up. Do you know if that the right place to look? Are you going to devmgmt and right clicking on your deck (and not the OHCI host controller)then properties/drivers?
When I hook up either of my DV cams (Canon XL1S’) to the firewire it uses C:\Windows\system 32\drivers\ksthink.sys but when I point the deck to this folder it can’t find it (or doesn’t want to use it).
    Thanks for your patience Fredrick,
    Randy

Under the windows\system32\drivers\ directory, the specific files showing for the DV deck are ksthunk.sys, and msdv.sys.

Yessir, that seems to be the generic driver for these kinds of devices….I wonder if there is a way to force Windows to use them?

Since mine came up plug and play, I never had to juggle drivers with it. Sorry I can’t offer more advice. If you need me to look at something else on my system, let me know.
