  • DVD render ARCHITECT recompress 20min. film???

Posted by Bruno Simon on December 5, 2008 at 10:58 am

    Hi.
I´m rendering a short film (about 20minutes) using dvd architect template PAL (europe) with some modifications like constant bit rate 9.000, high profile… I think its the best rendering quality possible…. rendering audio AC-3 separately.
Problem is when I put the mpeg2 file in architect it ALWAYS re-compress it??? Why is that? Am i loosing image quality here?
How can I get the best quality image possible (short film is for competition) using vegas and architect?
    thanks,
    bruno

To simply avoid Architect from re-compressing your
video….you need to first render it out from vegas
using your desired mpeg2 DVD Architect video stream
    template.
    Re-compression always reduce image quality.
    An example:

i´m using DVD ARCHITECT TEMPLATE PAL mpeg2 when rendering from Vegas. Even thought architect re-compress my file (even a 2 minute file)…i cant understand what could be wrong… As i said i made some modifications in the architect template on vegas increasing bit rate and stuff…. Its the only explanation i can find…or not.. if someone could help i´ll be really appreciated. thanks.

Well..of course if you make modifications in architect
as you said increase bit rate and stuff…it will have
    to be re-compressed.

Without doing any modifications and using one of the
Architect video stream template in vegas, then their
will not be any further compression carried out by Architect.

I dont make modifictions in architect. My modifications are in VEGAS when using dvd architect template PAL. Inside I change some settings. Inside architect i just drag the files and click burn dvd. It always re-compress it…

    Hi,

To avoid recompress video by DVDA, your mpeg2 has to be DVD compliant. Maybe your render changes make your mpeg2 not DVD compliant.
Another point, if you work in PAL (just like I do) make sure your DVDA project is for PAL as well.
If you accidentally put a DVD compliant PAL mpeg into an NTSC DVDA project, DVDA will recompress it.

    hi,
that´s the error architect gives me saying its not an mpeg2 compliant file.
The only thing I change in my vegas render template DVD ARCHITECT PAL is setting to HIGH PROFILE, HIGH LEVEL and CONSTANT BIT RATE 9.000.
Do you think this alterations afect the mpeg2 for architect and he doesn´t recognise it as a mpeg2 compliant file?? I never use ntsc..
    thanks

Oh yes, I think. Try main profile @ main level. Reduce bitrate to 8Mbps, to my knowlegde 8Mbps is the maximum allowed to DVD video.
