  Keeping Perspective

  Hi group!

  We are shooting a commercial where cars are broken down on the side of the road. The camera is in another car driving by them.

  We are using a effect that makes smoke come out from the engine.

  My question is: How do i keep the smoke in perspective as the camera moves away from the parked vehicle.

  The process that suits your need is called “tracking”.
  a process that would place your smoke at one central spot while
  the camera moves….basic tracking can be handled in vegas using
  the keyframes. But for a more detailed and accurate track result,
  a dedicated tracking software or plugin can be called upon.
  For my tracking needs i use Imagineer Monet…However there
  is a decent tracking plugin for such tasks for vegas in BorisFX.

  …and the new After Effects CS4 comes bundled with Imagineer Mocha which is an excellent 2D tracker. I also use REALVIZ MatchMover which is a 3D tracker but AutoDesk bought it and discontinued it. 🙁 If you are going to be doing a lot of special effects shots like this it pays to invest in a tracking tool that can calculate camera movement for you.
