Media Import
Hi, I think I might regret raising this as the subject is at the outer limits of my knowledge.
I want to download some web video and import it into a Vegas (7) project. I use Sothink Web Video Downloader to capture the web video and then convert that file (FLV?) to an AVI file using AVS Video Converter.
However, when I then import the AVS converted (AVI) file into Vegas all I get is the audio track – no video.
Could the problem be with the AVS converter? When I import the Sothink file into AVS a default “AVI Profile” shows as “Video:DivX;Audio:MP3-192kbps”. The AVS appears to convert the file to AVI – no error messages.
Any thoughts re this? Thank you in advance.

Do you have DivX installed on your computer?
Also, does any of your media player able to play
back the file you are trying to import in vegas?Steve Rhoden

Steve, yes, I do have DivX installed and yes, the files that I have converted to AVI using AVS do play on other media players, Windows Media Player for example. Bob

You may be encoding to the Xvid codec in the conversion process. You can’t use Xvid. You can use the DivX tool to convert the headers (takes mere seconds) of a number of files that Vegas can read. Vegas cannot read Xvid.

Thank you for the info Douglas – a little more knowledge gained. The FLV converter I use offers a big range of conversion profiles incl. AVI format, Custom MPEG-2, WMV, a range of MPEG-4 formats, and DVD MPEG-2, to mention a few. I’ve chosen the last one and that loads up into my Vegas project fine. Thanks again.
