    Hi,

It seems i’m slowly migrating toward linux. My intention was to install Ubuntu 64bit (computer AMD 64 4200+X2 with 3 gig ram) and run windows XP 32bit from within VirtualBox. I know dual boot would be a better option, but how much of a performance hit would I take from going the VirtualBox route?

Anybody has tried something like that?

    Thanks!

I run Vegas in VMware all the time and it works fine except that VMware doesn’t expose the firewire ports so you cannot capture or use a firewire audio interface. You can use firwire hard drives if they are mapped to the host first and then shared with the vm.

I have never used VirtualBox so I don’t know how well it would work. VMware is a very mature product and it performs really well.

How much memory do would you assign to the XP operating system, based on a 3Gig setup?

    Thanks!

I wouldn’t assign more than half of your real memory to a virtual machine. So start at 1GB but don’t go over 1.5GB if all you have is 3GB total. Also, look at how much free memory is in your running system. For example on Windows, if the Task Manager says that there is only 800MB free, don’t assign 1GB because you will just thrash trying to allocate enough memory.

Hey, Im having a lot of trouble with Vegas 7 running in VMware. It will either give me an error message and shutdown or make my mouse cursor invisible (and then usually crash a little afterwards). I don’t know if its vmware, or maybe something with the codecs for my footage which is .mov (hdv)

any help would be greatly appreciated!
