  avi not being recognized in a project on a different computer

  Hey all,

  This is my first post and usually I can find the answer but not for this one so I appreciate your help.

  I have Sony Vegas Pro 8 and I started a new project on my laptop saving the project all all supporting files to an external hard drive like I usually do.

  I am now using my home desktop and the veg file is recognized as well as all still images and some other avi files but one specific avi file is not. I have chopped this file up quite a bit into subclips but my desktop will not recognize this one file at all. Even if I start a new project it does not recognize the avi but I have tried and it does play on my desktop using various other programs.

  I have uninstalled, reinstalled and even updated to version 8.0c on both computers.

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Usually this happens when Vegas doesn’t have a codec that it needs. Get a copy of the free utility called GSpot and drop the AVI file on it. It should tell you what codec the file is using and if it is installed on your system. Then find and download the codec you need.

  thanks for the advice John, I have used GSpot and it says the codec MP42 is installed so I am not sure what else the issue could be. My system did update to MS Service Pack 3 if you know of any known issues there. Thanks again for your help
