  • Editing JVC 250U HDV 30 footage

I am wondering about editing footage shot on our JVC 250 U camera.

How does Vegas handle the same footage files in
    1. A DV Widescreen project
    2. A HDV 720 30 project?

Will Vegas downsample the project example 1? so it will not be burdened with larger files? Will it still access higher res files in any way?

Or will both 1. and 2. handle it the same way?

I assume a HDV 720 – 30p project will yield the highest image quality, but by how much?

    What are some workflow options?

Should I open it up in an HDV project and render to a DV project for the smallest project?

    THanks

You can put both DV and HDV (and nearly any other footage) on the time line and just edit. When want to export you specify the the code for the export (DV, HDV, MPG, AVCHD etc). Vegas will convert approprietly.

    Thanks John,

That is what I’ve thought, but all three editors here are havy problems with the HDV footage and heard service pack three may be causing troubles.

We are having rendering failures and Vegas stop responding .

    Thanks

I used to have the “Vegas not responding” message. Since I switched to Quad Core computer (Intel Q6600), Vegas breazes through HDV, AVC HD, M2V etc.
I think Vegas chokes on slower computers because it can not decompress HDV, AVCHD fast enough.
