  • Can I make a navigation button text “keyframe” transition using Architect Studio?

Posted by Kent Clark on October 19, 2008 at 7:18 pm

I’m using DVD Architect Studio 4.5 for a multi DVD project.

I have a 30 second video clip I will insert in each DVD for a start item. Then for each DVD I have made a short video clip that I want to use as a menu background. Each one is about 2 minutes long.

I would like to have the background video play for about 1 minute before the text only navigation buttons appear over the background, kind of like setting a keyframe transition in a Vegas event.

So far I haven’t been able to figure out a way to to this, I get the navigation buttons as soon as the menu appears. Is what I want to do possible? If not, any suggestions on how to get the effect I want?

I tried to get around this problem by adding the text from the navigation buttons to the original clip and then superimposing blank buttons on the corresponding areas of text when the clip was made the background graphic for the menu.

The big problem with this is that the text is so fuzzy it is almost unreadable, whereas the text from DVDA is much crisper.

    Any suggestions or help?

For some reason there is not the ability to “Crop and Adjust” the text and then keyframe them as you would a button. My workaround is to edit my text as part of my video clip so it shows up exactly how I want. The I go back to Architect and import a button, use the crop and adjust and change the alpha to Zero and set the keyframe at the start. The you just have to play with the settings to avoid having the mask show in the clip before the navigation text displays.

What I also do if I want a transition effect when clicking a menu item is to create one in Vegas by taking a snap shot of the page and link I want to use. Then use that clip to make any changes I’d like to use on my menu page. Hope this helps, if not please ask I’ll be glad to help if I can.

…you can also try dragging the start-slider (green one) on the DVDarch timeline of your menu-video where you want your text button appears… although I think next time the menu loops, will start from your new mark (and not from the very beginning…) … maybe just another option to explore…

    good luck

Joe and Enrique, thanks for the comments. Joe, I did go back to the video clip and insert text. Then I planned to make blank buttons in Architect and align them with the corresponding text in the clip. But when I did this the text from the clip was very fuzzy, almost unreadable for smaller fonts, while the DVDA text was much sharper. If I did what you were explaining did you have any issues with text sharpness?

Sorry I must have not understood correctly what you had already tried. What you can do is change the resolution of the text in Vegas and then import. That might help as well as make sure you are using the best preview function. Sorry if this is basic but I have been guilty of making pretty basic mistakes. I don’t really understand why you be having fuzzy text from an existing clip. I will have to test that on this end. I’ve also made the mistake of not remembering that my video will be seen on a much larger screen than the one I use to edit. TV is not very text friendly to read and most fonts on any DVD are by usually very large. Hope this helps if not let me know and I will assist as I can.
