Recording Audio ?
I work for the school board and we are trying to set up a machine to use for morning announcments. We are using sony vegas 6.0 and are capturing video via firewire from a canon camcorder. The problem is in the fact that we do not want to record audio from the camcorder but from a mic that is hooked up to our soundcard. I have tried everything to record from this mic, I arm the voice tab and it sees the mic, but when i press capture it only wants to get the audio from the camcorder. The only success I have had was actually arming the voice tab, pressing record and then capturing from the device. This is not optimal because the audio does not sync and it becomes a tedious process for kids to try to resynce the audio…Please Help.

I dont believe Vegas will record video from a camcorder and audio from a sound card at the same time and automaticlly put them in sync on the timeline. Some camcorders have an external mic input for just that. But syncing is easy. Just clap your hands to make a spike in the wave form recorded from the camera and the other mic. Place them both on the time line, zoom in and drag the spikes in sync. Then muts the camera audio track. Thats what the original “Take 1” clack sound was and is still used for.
