Zooming out of a picture/video
Hey, i was wondering if anyone could help me with what effects i need to use in vegas if i want to zoom out/in of a picture?
Liek for example if i wanted to zoom in on the pupil of an eye then zoom back out….

Because video is 720 x 480 (basically) if you zoom in too far it gets really pixillated. You can do more zooming on a high resolution still but Vegas seems to have trouble with too many very high resolution stills. It seems to like PNG the best. You do the zooming by using either event pan/crop or track motion depending on what you are trying to accomplish.

Im trying to do what i mentioned above, zoom in on a pupil of an eyeball, then zoom out from it, as an intro to a video…

I did this intro idea a few years ago, you may see how in either of the “Novalash” videos on my web site samples. Like Terry said, you need to use a still photo; or another idea would be to use an HD video in a SD project.

Im definatley using a still picture, im just not sure how to actually achieve the effect of zooming in/out?
At moment all i can do is fade inbetween 2 pictures, one normal & the other zoomed in….

Because you are fading between a regular shot and a magnified (or zoomed) shot I am assuming that you have figured out how to enlarge the picture via pan/crop. The next thing is to use keyframes, the little time line at the bottom of the pan/crop control window that has diamomnd shaped figures in it. PLace your picture in the regular time line and click the pan/crop. You will notice there is already a diamond (first keyframe) at the beginningof the pan/crop ti meline. Click on the end of the pan/crop time line and then make your adjustment to the picture (zoom in or out) A new keyframe will appear there. Now when you play the portion you will have a zoom froom the first keyframe to the second. You can place as many keyframes as you would like to achieve different appearances.
