monitoring HD by firewire
…working with DV I use to monitor on a std. TV with a Canopus ADVC 300 as OHCI firewire card with excelent results …. I noticed that I can output an HD timeline from Vegas the same way in the same (SD) TV…. am I missing something (besides resolution) ??? is this a “cheap” and good alternative to monitor HD on an external TV ?? If I connect the components output from the canopus, will be an advantage using an LCD bigger HDTV ???
any comments would be greatly apreciated …

You will be disadvantaged working this way. You can’t trust SD output for working in HD unless your final format will olny be SD and never in HD. If you have an HDTV or LCD, then the best option is to connect it to your computer via the second DVI output on your graphics card and use Vegas’ Secondary Monitor preview options. This was specifically added for HD preview.
You could also use an HD output card like the Aja, or Decklink, but Windows Secondary Display is also acceptable.

…mmm I have already 2 working monitors and yes, I’ve tried one of them for previewing but I’m not very happy with the result (NOT real time frames/sec) … and as far as I know, there isn’t yet full support from Blackmagic cards with Vegas … AJA I don`t have an idea….

Well Enrique, you are gonna have to take it up the notch
when working with HD…there are no shortcuts if you want
to output the best, visit the AJA website to get a full
understanding of what their cards do ….
(solves your realtime problem). But not only is realtime
an important factor, but also for pre-viewing your output
