So I’m trying to capture MiniDV using firewire through the Sony Capture utility in Vegas Pro 8. Never had a problem before. Popped in a new tape, captured it and there is no audio when playing back the captured files, or in the preview in capture (I realize as I go back to check). Video is there and fine. Audio is definitely on the tape. Audio plays for files captured last week.

Just downloaded Scenalyzer to try to sort out the problem. Audio is there in Scenalyzer Capture preview, but is only on the right channel (no audio was recorded on the left channel).

Is the Vegas Capture voiding the audio because it can’t find anything on the left channel?

    Thanks for any clues.

You may be on to something. Normally, when recording a mono source to a stereo device the left channel is used. It may very well be that Vegas is not seeing any left channel audio and assuming there is no audio at all.
