DVD Architect random play question.
Hi, I am currently making a DVD based board game and i need some help with the DVD side of things.
Upon pressing a certain menu button I need to have the DVD select a random video from a pool of videos, then after returning to the main menu and selecting the same button, have it choose another random clip from the same pool (excluding the one that has already been played).
In other words i want to be able to have a random video played to me on every press of the same button until all the clips have been shown once with no repeats.
I have tried doing it with playlists and i can get it to play a random clip fine, the only problem is when it’s the next players turn there is a chance of getting the same question, this is what i want to avoid.

There is no way to keep the random function from generating the same number twice. What you might try is to create several playlists that are in different orders and then randomly select one of the playlists to use for the game. This will guarantee that no video gets played twice and if you make a dozen or more playlists the user will feel that the game is random.

Unfortunately I don’t think that solution will work because if I make a playlist that plays in a specific order, while it would guarantee no repeats, it would not allow me to go back to the main menu after each question (this is necessary because the user must be able to choose from a number of different categories).
Is it possible to do this without playlists, e.g. scripting? (Except that i don’t know how to script).
P.S. I am running DVD Architect Pro 4.5

Oh. I thought you already understood that this requires scripting. There is no way to do this without writing a few scripts. You’ll need to use the registers in the DVD player to keep score. Look for “DVD quiz script” on Google and you’ll find several ways to do this. Most of the approaches are a compromise to work within the limits of DVD scripting but all of them use scripting to achieve this.

However I don’t need the DVD player to keep the score, a question will appear on the screen then after a certain amount of time the answer comes up, if they got it correct then they move a certain number of spaces on the board as dictated by a roll of the dice. (I have already done all of this in Sony Vegas, each question is simply a video clip).
Can i use scripting to make a sequential playlist that only plays one video then returns to the main menu, then upon pressing play again, plays the next video? If this is possible then i could do what you suggested and have a number of different question sets, where the player chooses a new set of questions every time they play the game.

No, but you could string together videos where the end actions run scripts that determine the next menu or video to go to. So it is possible to get close to what you want using videos that end with scripts that determine the next place to go.
