Synching a timecode to the original clip(s)’s speed
Here is what I’m working with and what I want to do:
– I have a 15 minute recording split into 8 consecutive clips which I want to play back-to-back with a timer in the top-right corner counting upwards, i.e. showing real-time.
– I want to speed up and slow down various different parts but I want to keep the timecode synched to the original speed of the clips. E.g. if I were to speed up a particular section to 2x, the time would count upwards at 2x.I’m new to video editing in general and I’ve slowly figured out one or two possible solutions, but I have some problems with them:
– The timecode effect works on each clip individually (i.e. it will start at 0 on every clip), even if I add the timecode video effect to the entire track.
– To get around this, I make a video track above this one and create a 15-minute transparent background clip, and then add the timecode to it. Then I mirror any speed/velocity changes of the track with the recorded clips to my timecode track
– However because this track still has a video effect on it (and isn’t rendered/processed or whatever the correct term is :p), if I split it into two or more tracks each track resets the timecode to 0.So that leaves this solution:
– I could render my timecode track (the 15-minute transparent block), and then import this as a normal clip which I can manipulate. However, when I render this uncompressed it is a large file despite the only data being the timecode counter. I don’t currently have the extra filespace to render this (it takes 20+ gigs) and it seems excessive for something so simple.
Is there another way I can render/process it into the type of clip I split and speed up within vegas (with the timecode unaffected in the way I described above) ?
Is there a *simple* way that I can merge my original 8 clips, add a timecode which runs sequentially across the clips – then render/edit this into a new single clip ?
Is there a much much simpler solution involving the timecode which I’m missing !!? 😀
