  OS Drive or Dedicated Drive for Vegas Pro 8?

  Hi Everyone,
  I have been using a 500GB external hard drive for capturing, storing, burning, etc. for Sony Vegas Pro 8 and DVD Architect. I used Spotted Eagles setup method found in VASST in which I went through a couple times.
  The reason I am asking the following question is because when I switch to DVD Architect, my edited rendered movie for some reason is located under My Documents in my operating systems C/ hard drive.
  Should have I installed the Sony Vegas Pro 8 and DVD Architect installation CD’s on a differant drive other than my OS C/ hard drive? Before trying it, I would like to know if it can be done this way. I am under the impression that everything should be off the OS C/ hard drive for smooth operation. I would “appreciate” your help for proper setup. Thank you, Ray

  Hi
  No you installed it right. What you didn’t do was go into your options and preferences to set your various folder locations. The default folder is the Ny Documents folder so you have to change that.

  My Vegas is installed on C drive. I have 2 other internal HD’s plus 2 external. The externals are for storage of videos I’m done with but need to keep.

  So let’s say my capture drive is F. Under options – preferences is where you set your choice of drives and folders for storing and rendering your videos. I have a Temp folder, a Capture folder, capture folder is set in the capture utility under options prefs. Also I have a seperate render folder.

  You can set it up the way you want but keep those file folders OFF your C drive.

  Thanks Allen,
  I’ll double check all my settings again. Maybe I didn’t check the “Apply” tab when setting up my rendering drive. I’m only using a WD 500GB external hard drive with my OS being 120GB w/ $GB of memory for everything. I am currently building a workstation with three drives. I am planning on setting them up in the following fashion;
  Drive 1 Operating System – Samsung HD103UJ 1TB SATA2 7200rpm 32MB
  Vegas Pro 8 and DVD Architect Software.

  Drive 2 (2 x 750GB)Samsung HD753LJ 750GB SATA2 7200rpm 32MB Raid 0
  Capture and Editing

  Drive 3 (2 x 750GB)Samsung HD753LJ 750GB SATA2 7200rpm 32MB Raid 0
  Rendering and DVD Architect use.

  My new workstation will consist of the following;

  Case – Antec P182 ATX Mid Tower Case w/5 cooling fans:
  1 rear 120mm TriCool Fan (standard)
  1 top 120mm TriCool fan (standard)
  1 lower chamber 120mm TriCool Fan (standard)
  1 front 120mm fan (optional)
  1 middle 120mm fan (optional) to cool the VGA
  Operating System – Microsoft Windows XP PRO

  I would appreciate any thoughts and/or opinions in regards to how to set my drives up other than mentioned. Thanks again, Ray

  Ray, first of all, that is one SWEET system 🙂

  Allen gave you good advice about checking ALL the default settings in both Vegas and DVDA (and there are a lot of them).
  I have a 3-drive system as well (no RAID though) and have a folder on drive E called “Edited Projects” that’s set as the default (Options > Prefs > Burning).
  When I click “Make DVD”, I still need to point it to the correct folder as it defaults to “E:\EditedProjects\Untitled”.
  I create a new folder ahead of time and select that folder for the files.
