  Newbie needs help – go figure!

  Hi All —

  I’m extremely new to this whole HDV capture thing. I have a Canon XH A1 that I’m trying to use with Sony Vegas 8. I’m able to capture the clips as .m2t files , but when I add them to the time line and try to render as .avi, I’m finding the newly rendered .avi file is in super fast motion. Like I said, I’m extremely new at this, so I’m sure it some type of operator error.

  Anyway, any help or info provided is GREATLY appreciated!

  1. Why are you encoding to avi files?

  2. What type of avi files are you encoding?

  If you are going to encode to AVI, use the cineform presets for an intermediary file format to work with if your computer is unable to handle the M2T files on the timeline (slow playback and responsiveness).

  If you encode to avi, you miss out on the “no recompression” feature if you are simply making high definition files without much in the way of CC (color correction) or FX.

  Hi Greg.
  If you just want to watch the rendered videos on your computer, then try the Windows media video 1440 x 1080 8 mbs preset. these play fine on a fast computer and look great. If your going to use the rendered videos in another editing program afterwards and have planty of hard drive space, use the uncompressed preset. The Cineform avi preset is a very lossless format and saves drive space greatly compared to uncompressed. This format is also more efficient in Vegas and works well with slower computers. It also can handle multiple renders, and chromakeying without loosing hardly any quality.
