  DVD Architect won’t burn to DVD-R

  Hi,
  I’m a Newbe here.
  I was unable to find this in the archives.

  I have a client that has an older DVD player.
  I figured I would take the precaution of burning his project to a DVD-R for maximum compatibility. Or so I thought.

  I’m using DVD Architect 4.5c on a Sony Vaio with a SONY DVD RW DW-Q28A KFS1 drive, and Maxell DVD-R’s.

  I can burn data files using Roxio onto the DVD-R’s
  But when I try to burn a Vidio project using DVD Architect, it says that the DVD is not compatible with the drive.

  DVD+R’s do fine.

  I’ve tried several drive settings all to no avail.

  Any suggestions?

  It’s not an Architect issue.
  Either:
  A-buy a different burner/player that is both – and + compatible
  B-buy a stack of +R

  Since he’s your client, that’s about all you can do to assure compatibility.

  Architect doesn’t burn data discs, although Roxio can. You’re comparing apples to oranges. Data discs don’t have to meet a replication spec, DVDs do, hence the differences.

  You can use Architect to “prepare” the file (makes the AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS folders for you) and then use Roxio to burn these as a data disc.
  I do this with RecordNow all the time and it’s always worked for me.
  As Douglas said though, this doesn’t get to the root of your problem.
  A quick Google search on your drive model turned up several complaints, most of them like yours 🙁

  First, I heartly agree with Mike and DSE’s replies above.

  Secondly, 2 other items. 1. I’ve had more problems personally with Sony DVD drives that I won’t use them anymore. I curently use an older HP LightScribe drive with no problems.

  2. Your media. Have you tried using different -R Media? I highly recommend the TY high quality media. I’ve also had problems with Maxell media and don’t use them either. You always want to use the highest quality Media you can afford. Not the Best-Buy / Walmart type media.

  So you have a number of things to check and try out.

  I went ahead & burned the images onto the DVD-R disks using Roxio.
