I Am Freaking Out!
Posted by Clay Dempsey on April 29, 2008 at 12:46 amI have been using Vegas since 6, now I have 8 installed. I have been using it for a couple of weeks no problem. I do VJ work, so what I do is rip DVD’s to VOB files. I have never had a problem, but now it is saying “none of the files dropped can be opened”. If I go to just open the file it says “unsupported format”. I haven’t changed a thing and I am flipping out b/c time is ticking on a project I have coming up. Can someone please help me? This was working yesterday and I have tried it with multiple rips…what happened?

April 29, 2008 at 1:10 amI just checked all of my .mov and .avi files and they all still import correctly. I am literally almost in tears here. I have unistalled and installed again…still the same dumb error. God I am hoping someone here can help me or else I’m screwed.

April 29, 2008 at 1:50 amTry the “File – Import – DVD Camcorder Disc” function built into Vegas.
It was designed for miniDVD discs but works equally well with regular sized (non-copyrighted) DVDs.
If you’re importing a lengthy DVD, be patient while the files load and convert. -

April 29, 2008 at 1:52 amMike, thanks for the reply but that’s no good either. Right when I click DVDCamcorder I receive this message “An error ocurred opening one or more of the files. Application key not allowed”. Why would this work for days, weeks, months and now it’s shite?

April 29, 2008 at 2:16 amClay, I don’t know what to tell you.
I did a search of the Sony Knowledgebase and several Vegas forums.
The only references to “Application key not allowed” I could find related to problems with PSPs and Media Manager.
Have you tried going back to Vegas 6 to do the project until you can figure out what went wrong? -

April 29, 2008 at 2:18 amNot yet. I’m about to uninstall Vegas 8, clean the registry and go back to 7. Right now the vobs aren’t opening in 7 or 8. I have never seen anything like this happen and it really has me up in arms.

April 29, 2008 at 2:30 amYou can have 7 and 8 installed and use either one. You just cannot open a .veg file created using Vegas Pro 8 in Vegas 7.
Did you try a CD that you did before that worked?

April 29, 2008 at 2:34 amI’ve been using Shrink, but like I said I’ve been doing this for almost 2 years now and have never had this happen. I still had the project from last night open and one of the VOB files was still in the timeline, that’s when I dragged the next one over and starting having the “drop” error. I’ve tried everything before posting here. It’s like something hit my computer today. I have even started running my spyware programs thinking it was something to do with that. I even thought it was something to do with VLC I downloaded the other day, so I removed that. Again, I’ve done this same process for well over 2 years with no flaw and have been using the created VOB files in Vegas 8 no problem.

April 29, 2008 at 3:08 amTry naming the the .vob file to .mpg
You might try ripping the DVD, dragging the VOB file to “Total Video Converter”, convert to avi file and move on. That would be my solution. I believe TVC can be used on a trial with limitations.
