My first attempt at capturing HDV:
I have purchased a slightly used (hopefully) FX1.
Using MiniDV tape I have taped a scene in HDV. PLays back on the Cam OK and read 1080i.
However when I connect the cam to the computer (firewire) and open Vegas (7b) and then open the capture module I get an error message that says “The device ‘Microsoft AV/C subunit device’ could not be opened. Please be sure that it is turned on and not being used by another application.”
Its as if the computer is not recognizing that the camera is attached via the firewire. The firewire port on the computer works as I can capture SD from a PD150 on it. Could the firewire port on the FX1 be bad? Or what…?
    Thanks for the help.

You capture DV using the external capture app.

You capture HDV using the INTERNAL capture app.

Sounds like you’re using the wrong one. If it doesn’t ask when you choose capture, you can change which one is used in the preferences.

    Terry, I see that you’re using 7.0b
The last release of it was 7.0e
A few folks have reported some issues with this version and dropped back to 7.0d
It’s not on the regular Sony site but you can get older versions from their software archive.

    Edward,
    Thanks for the reply.
I am probably using the external capture app. I remember a long time ago I would get asked if I wanted the internal or external and I would choose the one for DV as that is what I was using. But I do not get asked that question anymore. I did go for a rudimentary search for a menu item but could not find one. When I get home this evening I will do a good search.

    Mike,
    Thanks for the reply.
Actually, I misspoke. I am using 7d. Did not go to 7e because of the problems I read about. Still have 8.0 sitting in the box (actually there was no box) for the same reason.
