How can this be done?
I’m new to Vegas Pro, so forgive me if this has been asked before. I’m wondering how exactly you go about adding a video effect to just a certain section of a video. For example, say you have a 3 minute video and at 2:50 you want to start an effect and have the effect stop at 2:55, instead of having the effect play throughout the entire 3 minute video. How do you go about doing that? Are there any tutorials on this?

2 easy methods:
1) put cursor at start point, and push ‘S’ for split. Do same at end point. Apply FX to that new clip.
2) apply FX to entire clip. In the Properties for that FX, there will be a timeline at the bottom. You need to create keyframes, for the changes in use of the effect. Is very useful to turn on the SYNC CURSOR button at bottom left of the FX timeline, to get timings right.
a possible third alternative is to duplicate the track, apply FX to top track, and use the track Compositing envelope to adjust opacity of the top track. Would be easiest method IF you had lots of variation in the particular FX, and wanted to use the envelope method.
