  • Maddening difference between mpg file and DVD

Posted by Mary Waitrovich on March 13, 2008 at 2:18 pm

In one part of my video I have a bunch of logos that fade to 40% transparency over white. Looks great (and the same) on the Vegas preview, the rendered avi, wmv and mpg2 (w/DVDA template) files. However, when the DVD is burned (and I know there is no additional compression), this part of the video looks very different, much more blown out. The rest looks the same. Not quite sure how this could be. I even went back and decreased the amount of transparency, and my rendered files looked different, but the DVD version looked just like the first one.

    Can anyone offer any help?

    Thanks much,

Mary, is the white at an RGB value of 255-255-255 ?
If so, try it at 235-235-235 (maximum recommended for pure white for TV).
BTW, the recommended value for pure black for TV is 16-16-16.

I’ll try that and let you know if it worked. Thanks for the quick response!
