Hi guys. I am curious as to whether there is a plugin for sony vegas 8, that will allow me to edit my mpeg footage, and encode only the portion of video that has transition. ulead movie studio has a feature called smart rendering, that only encodes the parts that have transitions.

MPEG smart-rendering in Vegas is only for 19, 25, 35, and 50Mbps streams, not MPEG ripped from DVDs.

The dvds I am using is mini dvd from a cam. So I guess then I am back to trying to find a non-rerender plugin. Any help would be greatly welcomed.

What is the format on the mini dvd from your cam?
I have small project that provided me with a wmv file. The resolution is not very good. Anything with motion is very blurry.
I just wondered if the mini-dvd cams allowed other formats, like AVI.

How did you manage to do that?
AFAIK, the only format a miniDVD disc gives you is MPEG-2.

DVD camcorders can be MPEG2 or AVCHD (MPEG 4)
I think he’s referring to a camcorder that was used to acquire one of these formats, and then someone converted it to wmv.
Additionally, some folks connect junk cams to the Archos devices and record that way, outputting .wmv.
    It’s possible, but a PITA.

I didn’t make the video. If that is the best mpeg-2 put out it is pretty sucky.
I expect that the camera was pretty cheap as it blurred out on every shot that had motion in it.
The video was of motorcycles on a track. Camera guy was not very good and was always setup in the wrong position.

BTW: if you want to convert formats download ffmpeg from Internet. It will convert anything to anything. It is command line (DOS) and take a while to get the commands right but works great. Do a Google on ffmpeg. You will find the Windows version and manual.
