Activity Forums VEGAS Pro 12Gig rendered file?

    Hi,

I’m new to Vegas 7, and as a first project, I compiled several video tutorials together which ran for about 59 minutes. When I rendered the vegas project as a video for windows (.avi) file, the resulting file was a whopping 12Gig file and took almost two hours to render (my computer is a dual chip Pentium D 2.8 GHz)

Is this the right file size? I kept all the default avi template settings in Vegas.

    Thank you.

DV AVI is about 13.5 GB/hr. so that sounds right to me.
If you plan to make a DVD from it, you need to encode it to MPEG-2 & AC-3 streams.

Thanks Mike. Would you know the resulting file size if rendered to MPEG-2 and AC-3?

The size of the MPEG2 file will depend totally upon the bitrate you choose.

What bitrate would you suggest I use to get a good quality video/audio output in a reasonable file size?

    Thanks.

    CBR: 8,000,000
    VBR: 8,000,000 / 8,000,000 / 4,600,000

Read Vol. 1 Issue #7 of Edward Troxel’s newsletters (click the link under his name) for more info on DVD prep and authoring.
