TICKER
Hi I need to create a ticker for a video, something along the lines of a sports or news ticker. How can I make the text to move from right to left over a lower third?

Drop a (Default text) text event on the timeline.
Set the size as desired (36 pt. or smaller).
Enter all your text as a single line (don’t worry about it going off-screen).
Set the text placement to Bottom Center.
Create a key frame at the beginning of the text event.
Go into the Placement tab and change the X value so that the beginning of the text crawl is at screen right (go off-screen if you want to).
Create a key frame at the end of the text event.
Go into the Placement tab and change the X value so that the end of the text crawl is at screen left (go off-screen if you want to).
Change the length of the event as desired to make it a readable crawl.
Readjust the end key frame if necessary. -

Maybe you’re not placing the words far enough right and left?
I made up a sample ticker veg file (using your words in italics above) for you to look at.
It was done in Vegas 7.

Cool, any Vegas groups in Ontario that you know of. I know FCP and Avid have some groups here.
I got it to work, what I did is I started from scratch, I changed to many things in between, I had to time stretch right away and took some words out as it was way too fast, that of might caused the problem.
What’s the best way to control the speed of the ticker? I used ctrl+stretching the file but it’s not very accurate.

The generated media events have a “Length” in the upper right corner. Make sure that’s the proper value for what you need. Then the timeline below will adjust to that length.
There should be no issues at all also adjusting the speed via CTRL-Resize (i.e. playback rate) or using a velocity envelope.
