    hi friends,
I just started using Vegas 7. The project requirements are – i have to capture a song from a Beta tape.

So there should be a analog to digital converter to be used to get the song on to PC hard disk and edit with Vegas.

what would be the best capture card to be used with Vegas?

Is there any fine points to be considered on capturing from a tape(and dumping back) to prevent quality loss or frame loss.

The Beta tape is for PAL BroadCast . So i assume that i have to capture it as PAL DV Avi? is it right or should i capture in another format ?

    Thanks for your time.

PAL DV in avi wrapper is the correct format in which to capture.
If you don’t have a converter, I’d recommend renting or purchasing the Convergent Design converter system. Best I’ve ever seen, and I’ve installed quite a few in broadcast facilities.
Vegas will recognize the Convergent box immediately.
they have their own forum right here on the COW. Tell em’ I sent ya.

    hi dse,
You have mentioned convergent design converter system. this allows us to capture from a beta tap and then dump to another beta tape?

i was thinking a capture card was enough. but then that couldnot put video back to a beta tape. could it?

what would be the price of it ? previously we were using dps velocity with reality hardware to get and put video to beta tape.

since dps support is taken of , we searched for alternative and vegas was quite versatile.

also what would this converter system comprise of (card, breakout box)?

Convergent Design box will allow you to ingest over SDI or component (or composite), edit in Vegas, and spit back out over SDI, component, or composite back to your deck with or without T/C.
