  Scripting Job – Quotes needed

  Hi,

  I would like the scripting pros to check out this post and if possible give me a quote on writing 2 scripts for Vegas.

  1. TEXT CONVERTER
  I usually have over 100 individual text objects on my timeline, as subtitles. I need a script to convert that 1 timeline into an .srt, text file, or anything I can use to create DVD subtitles.

  2. MASS TEXT MODIFIER
  I need a script to look at a selected timeline and change one/more attributes of all the text objects in that timeline. Attributes I must be able to modify:
  – font type
  – font size
  – bold/italic
  – font position (top left, top right, coordinates, etc.)

  Would be nice to be able to change:
  – font color (I am fine with entering a 6 digit color code number)
  – shadow
  – outline
  – anything else…

  For your text converter, do a google search on vegas SubText and you’ll find a free one in the first few links that come up.

  From the site:
  Create your subtitles in Microsoft Word or other text editor, and apply this application. You can even import DVD Architect .SUB files. SubText will then place/generate regions into your project with the subtitle as the label, saving you enormous amounts of time. Your text must be in .txt or .sub format; SubText won

  Hello Mike,

  To the best of my knowledge Subtext doesn’t actually take text media objects on a timeline and converts them. It does that with regions.

  Or am I wrong?

  David, what you’re wanting to do can’t be done via scripting. Scripts can’t access the individual text or attributes – it can only set presets.

  Hello Edward,

  In that case, is there a way to apply a preset to all text events on a timeline?

  Also, I still don’t understand how the presets that come with Vegas, if applied to a text, DO change the attributes of that text, BUT not the text itself. When I save a text preset, and apply it to another text event, it overwrites the text itself, making the preset pretty much useless.

  Any thoughts on that?

  If you use a script to change the presets, you’ll also change the text.
