Sony Cinescope
Posted by Bill Jackson on June 8, 2007 at 3:51 amI purchased Cinescope and to say I am disapointed is an understatement. The music is electronicly generated, it all sounds the same and I can not use it to score my videos.
Sony has additional music themes for sale but is it the same type of electronic music that comes with the program?
Two magazines rated this program “tops”.
Maybe I am missing something in this program? Any help would be appreciated

June 8, 2007 at 3:55 amJust to add if needed it’s Cinescore. I own Cinescore and have found it to be a big dissappointment. A few hours ago I was looking into Sonicfire 4.5 and listening to some of their “cuts”. I really wish i had went with Sonicfire of Cinescore for the wider selection of music offered by Smartsound (maker of Sonicfire). Cinescore has it’s base theme pack and I also have Incredible Vistas, Pass the Ring, and Ideal Vacation. With those four packs I shouldn’t need to rely on Digital Juice Stack Traxx for 75% of my music needs, but I do. The integration into Vegas 7 is great. The reults are lacking.

June 8, 2007 at 4:24 amI have Cinescore and the music, particularly the one that comes with the product, is very electronic. You can listen to the other packs on Sonys site. I like the way the product works, but it has some 1.0 aspects to it. Too little control over music etc.
Since I am not a pro, I don’t really mind, assuming it will improve with newer versions. If it doesn’t I would do as others seems to have done, which is to go with Sonicfire.
Also, Sony really needs to hire some real composers, not just the ones they get through their Acid program.

June 8, 2007 at 1:30 pmI have both Cinescore and Sonicfire Pro. I also have music from Digital Juice. I am not an audio person so I find I use all of them about equally. I’m like ICVideo, I figure the program will improve with time and the tracks I pick for my productions sound fine to me. There are some I don’t like because of the mechanical sound but it is “Fusion” type music and I don’t like fusion music to begin with so that is probably why I don’t care for it.
In my opinion, the biggest problems with Sonicfire Pro I have found is they do not give their customers very good breaks on new releases of the program nor do they give customers very good breaks on the music. With Cinescore at least your new packs are reasonably priced.
Interesting comment about ACID and, now that you mention it, I can hear some ACID influence in some of the music.
Sorry you are disappointed with the product but for folks like me it can be a life saver.

June 8, 2007 at 2:32 pmThere is no such thing as objectivism in music. Music is and will always remain a very subjective thing. Because of this, some people really like the electronic music used in Cinescore and others are put off by it. Me, I use it — and any other tool of this type (like Sonicfire Pro, Adobe Soundbooth, Digital Juice Traxx, etc. — as appropriate to me and don’t expect one tool to fit all situations. It’s why I use a number of different tools.
For one, while I find tools like Acid and Garageband to be quite a lot of fun for creating music of my own, in actual production situations the process is just too time-consuming to me and that is why I find tools like Cinescore, Sonicfire, etc., so quickly when the pressure is on.
While I agree that much of the synthesized music can be quite cold, there is a place for this kind of thing. Not for everyone but that’s the nature of music.
Best regards,

June 8, 2007 at 5:03 pmWhen a company as large as Sony, or any company that is trying to genuinely compete in the market, releases a product they are to support it to their greatest ability. I know it’s a free market and heck GM could sell a car and then refuse to sell repair parts. What companies now have is a responsibility to the customer. Sony’s Cinescore has been released since April 2006 and two out of the five packs are electronica. While I can’t tell Sony their market, lets look at some possible buyers; Wedding videography, indie and micro filmmakers, other event videography, documentaries, and a host of others. I say that Sony is catering to what is easy for them to produce and sell and not what will work and benefit the consumer. I think I’ll go with the class leader and order SonicFire…

Are you listing customers they do not cater to? There IS a Wedding theme pack.

June 8, 2007 at 6:41 pmI’m pointing out that 40% of their offerings (actually much higher if I broke it down track by track) is electronica. One theme is Pass the Ring which I use and own. Thats 20% of their total offerings. I would guess that Vegas due to price and simplicity is used by a substantial percentage of videographers. They could use more Pass the Rings and fewer Bold New Worlds.

June 9, 2007 at 1:08 pmDont worry—Sony just just signed a deal and help is on the way. Cinescore as it stands now is fairly useless. I disagree about the objective comment. There is well produced music and poorly produced music. Cinescore packs are poorly produced.
