  • Using video from the HX-A1 in Vegas 6

    Hi all,

An associate and I are doing a shoot for a standard def project. I’ve using a Sony VX2000, and he’s using the Canon HX-A1. Now, I know there will be a big mismatch between the look of the video of these two cameras no matter what I do. That’s actually desired here.

As I’m new to HDV, I’m wondering what the best workflow would be. I assume (though have not confirmed) that the Canon can shoot in SD mode, and write to tape in standard DV format? If so, this would likely be easier, as the tapes should be readable by my Sony DSR-11 DV deck.

The alternative of course is to shoot with the Canon in HDV mode, and do a capture to an intermediate format. I’ve not tried this yet, but assume Vegas 6 is already capable of this.

I wonder if there are any problems with the former, or any advantages with the latter? I suppose one advantage of shooting HDV would be that footage could be used in a later HDV project. Any caveats to this? Anyone else using Vegas to edit HDV from a HX-A1 camera.

    Many thanks in advance.
