splitting video loads of times ….. PLEASE HELP
Hi,
Im using Vegas 7.0 . I have converted a powerpoint file to an avi file and imported it into vegas. For each slide I have to add audio for a voiceover. Im sure that I am going about this the wrong way, as it is extremely time consuming. I am dragging the time ruler to where the next slide shows and pressing ‘s’ to split the video file, however there are approximately 100 slides to split. So I am sure there is a faster way to go about this. I also then have to stretch the clip that I have just splited to make it stay on screen for the length of time the audio lasts for, to do this I am pressing Ctrl and dragging the clip. I have noticed that it will only stretch so far and I then have to copy and paste the clip to make it the same length as audio clip. Please help, I have to do this for work and I only started last week, so I have to get this right.

If there is no animation on any opf the Powerpoint slides, you’d be much better off saving them out as individual images.
To do this, go File – Save As and select an image format (jpg, png, etc.) in the Save As Type drop-down box.
Once you do this, you have the option to save only that slide or the entire presentation.
Be advised that you’ll have to renumber them as Powerpoint saves them as slide1, slide2,…slide10, etc.
If there are less than 100, rename the first 9 to slide01, slideo2, etc.
If there are more than 100, you’ll have to go slide001, slide002, slide010, slide 011, etc.
This is so that they will be in the right order when you import them into Vegas. -
Thanks for replying, there are a few slides with animation on them, I will try that for all the slides without animation though. Its just that I have 17 powerpoint files with over 100 slides in each, and I have to create a video for each powerpoint file so Im trying to find the quickest and most efficient way of doing it. This is just an idea I was having, I have no idea if Vegas is capable of doing this but here it goes. If I divided the video into chapters, is there any script that would make each chapter last a certain amount of time ?

I have done one of those projects before…here’s what I did.
You’ll love this !!!! Creative use of subclips !!1) put the power point in the trimmer. then play
2) everytime there is a slide that must “hold”..hit the “K” key.(pause)
then hit the “m” key to place a marker. (this puts a marker with a succesive number on it starting with #1.3) Highlight a small 2 second area of the slide. Click the “create subclip” button. (In the Upper right area of the trimmer window).This will make a subclip and place it in the media pool with a #1 subclip
4)continue this till the end.
5) now highlight the entire clip in the trimmer and drag it onto the
main timeline. (Notice that the markers will stay attached to the event file).6)Now you have quick referance markers to put all of the subclips onto.
7) On the timeline…go to 1st marker(orange line), place curser on the first frame of slide, split “S” key.(Splits the event)
8) slide the “right half” of the event over to the right to make room for subclip 1.
9)got to media pool tab and find subclip 1, drag it into position.
then pull the end of it out and notice that it just loops that 2 second subclip as long as you want. right !!!
Record you voice-over then drag/extend to match the length.10) pull the rest of the event back into place then goto the next marker and repeat process.
It looks complicated but I assure you it is a simple quick process and doesnt create any new files. only a loopable referance to a clip that already exists.

Wow that does sound complicated, Im gonna give it a go, and I wil post again if there is any problems.
And to the person who said “create a script that splits every x seconds” …. Do you have one ? I wouldnt know where to start. -
This is for zipedit, I was doing exactly as you said but nothing happens when I hit the K key, am I supposed to see something ? Thanks for telling me all of that, seems to be better than the way I was doing it.

sorry I was gone for a few days…
The “K” key is only a pause/stop action.
“J” is rewind…”K” is pause/stop….and “L” is play. tap it again and its fast forward. (this is a popular shortcut with many editors)
“enter” does the same thing
If you hit the space bar it is a stop …but resets to the previous starting point. experiment …you’ll seeDid the rest make sense ??
I tested it before I responded to you before and it does work….and it is a very fast procedure once you get going.

Hey ya your way is much better, so thank you. The only problem I found with it is some of the slides have animation and it only shows a lttle bit of the animation on them, but thats not a big problem. Thanks again

Actually, yes I do. Excalibur can easily do this.
