How to get Video game footage onto computer
How would I get footage of video game action onto my computer? The video games (ps2 & xbox) are hooked to my tv which of course is totally seperate of my editing computer. Is this possible to do?

you can hook the RCA cables directly to your camcorder and record it from there to tape, then capture normally to your computer.
You may need an RCA splitter so you can see the game on your TV too as you play it.

If the game is on a computer …
1) you need a video output to a camera’s input with dv passthru or record directly to tape.
2)If its on a laptop select the appropriate funtion have a cloned output thru the s-video out.If it is a game console then connect . You’ll see it in your capture program…Hit capture.
we do this all the time for little war movies. works great.

I’d recommend against this.
Video signals have to be transferred through 75Ohm cables to avoid reflections.
That means also 75ohm terminations on both ends of the cable.
If you split a video signal this way, you get a distorted video
signal with a decreased level.

My game is a console, but I’m not exactly sure what you mean by “connect”.
What am I connecting to what? Any more info would be much appreciated.Dave P.

you need an analog to digital converter to connect the console to the computer, via the firewire port in order to capture.

The game console will have analog video outs that go to the TV.
Connect these to a video camera that has “analog/digital passthru or connect to a “analog to digital converter” like the “Canopus advc110”.
Your computer will see this as a camera ready to capture video.
Set your game sequence up and capture when ready.We do this all the time and it works great. Games have settings that can get rid of information displays so only the game landscape is visible. not your radar or weapons count.
