deinterlace with scanlines – PAL
Posted by Sylvain Bégot on January 23, 2009 at 10:11 amHi,
Does anyone know how to create (or download somewhere) a “scanlines” PSD file in order to deinterlace PAL video ? (4/3 + 16/9 would be very welcome). I actually have a NTSC one but I don’t think I can use it with PAL footage.
Thanks.

January 23, 2009 at 10:23 pmIt’s updated to have PAL and HDV PSD too. File in project is called PAL DV scanlines. Click download project files.

January 23, 2009 at 10:30 pmI am a little unclear about the scanline PSD. However, if you are looking to deinterlace you footage you may want to check out DVFilm Maker. It can deinterlace NTSC, PAL, 4/3, or 16/9.
Hope this helps.

January 23, 2009 at 11:59 pmI directly compared the PSD method to just fields off AE export. AE is way, way better anyway; even more so plugins that are designed for this: dvfilm, fieldskit, magic bullet, algolith etc. Heck, even virtualdub probably looks better. People have used timewarp vectoring to merge the two fields together too.

January 24, 2009 at 10:18 amThanks for the tip. But I actually tried different ways to deinterlace and I think the “scanlines.psd” method is the best, since it’s the one on which you get the most control.

January 24, 2009 at 10:24 amHi Dave,
Well, speaking of my case, I have noticed that most of my viewers (since I am an editor and DVD authorer in the education field) are watching our products on their computers. That’s why I started to deinterlace the video, using what I call the “scanlines.psd” method in order to keep a good control and reduce the old-tv-screen flickering as much as I can.

April 2, 2013 at 3:33 pmSylvain, I see that this post is pretty old, however, do you still have the ntsc .psd scanlines document that you might wish to share?
