  • HD question Part 2

I’m making some progress with my HD set up for a shoot on Friday, but I’m feeling confused about how to take the best advantage of HDV to make the technique I described in the message below work.

I have borrowed a Sony HDV camera (HVR-Z1U) and could use two of them if that would help.

This video will end up on the web as 320×280, but how do I use the extra resolution of the HDV to allow me to zoom in and out without losing focus?

This is just a quick and dirty “proof of concept” to show my customer the editing technique I’ll be using.

    Here’s my question:
How do I set up the Vegas project to take best advantage of the HDV resolution to allow me to jump/zoom in and out on the chromakeyed person?

    thanks,

    Mary,

It looks like you have the technique pretty well in hand.

HD let’s you keep good resolution in SD (or in your case, lower) because, even when you zoomed in, that cropped section of the source is still higher resolution than the output.

If you are going 4×3 out (320×280) you probably don’t want to letterbox that small of a frame. My suggestion is to shoot DV for web-video – less hassle, and if encoded well, will do just fine for that small frame size.
