Hi i have a mac powerbook g4….power pc 1ghz processor..64 mb video ram..2 gig of memory…I am running after effects 5.5 with no problems except for my slow rendering times due to an older machine…I need to up grade to a newer version of after effects..I was wondering if anyone knew the highest version I could on this machine..I understand I will still suffer rendering issues but can deal with it for now..Which version started to work only with the intel processor?..will version cs3 be ok?…I am planning to buy an intel machine soon and dont want to have buy software twice if I dont have to…any help would be great.
    thanks

    AE 6.5 will run “ok”
    AE7 will run very sluggish
CS3 is written in Universal Code but I don’t think it will run great on a 1GHz G4

    … my advice would be…
If you’re planning to buy an Intel Mac soon, then buy CS4 at the same time,
Since you’re still working on a G4 and AE 5.5 at this time that little bit extra waiting won’t make a difference.

hi jan..thanks for responding…thats what i will end up doing its the best way in terms of money…now just another question…will after effects cs4 on an intel mac open after effects 5.5 projects if i need to use any of that footage at another time? I would think not but not sure?
    thanks for your help

All newer versions of AE will open older versions of AE.
so you can open an AE5.5 project in AEcs4, but if you save it in AEcs4, you can’t open it in AE5.5 anymore.
