Must I leave the Vegas family for a Panasonic 200?
Hello. I”ve been researching the Panny HVX200 camera and it seems like the one for me, other than Vegas won’t accpet its native files. I know that the applicatin Lightray will convert/tag the files so that Vegas can use them, but I also read that it’s pretty basic and not very effective (read slow) with a project of any heft.
Is this true? And if so, would I have to switch to another editing system that can handle negative files or does someone know any way around this?

SeriousMagic.com“Native” has its advantages but EVERY app you might want to open these files in would need to support them natively (ideally using the same decoder), so a conversion tool is not a bad thing.

Yeah, you can’t just say that. Tell us why we should “think twice.” I’ve been drooling over the HVX since before it was released for sales. Everything I’ve seen and heard about it say’s it by far the best value for the money, and memory cards are so much a better way then tapes.

I got word today that I can demo the 200 for about a week. I’ll keep you updated on how it works with Vegas using one of the apps mentioned earlier in the string. I’d still like to know why one should think twice.

That’s awesome! Definitely let us know how it goes. (in a new thread since this one’s getting way down on the list). I’d realy like to hear how it goes, both with Vegas, and just in general. I assume there will be a Vegas 7 trial out whenever they release it, you ought to see if support is any better in 7.
