  What’s the best way to add a freeze/camera flash effect without the flash transition?

  I’m looking for a real good freeze/camera flash effect where the picture blows out to white then goes still.

  I normally do it like this:

  1. Have clip on timeline and make sure last frame is the one I want to freeze.
  2. Save it as a still
  3. Bring the still on the timeline and use the flash transition to cause the flash.

  Now, the problem with this is the transition ‘handles’. The still in ‘3.’ above has to
  be a few frames back from the main clip for it to be a -transition- so some of the time,
  although quick, the last frame seen with motion isn’t the one that’s made into a still.

  I know it may be negligable but in some instances doesn’t look right.

  In regards to other methods, I don’t want to put a white solid on the track above and fade up from
  white then down again as it looks too fake.

  I want that real blown out burnt out to white look.

  Can anyone think of a better method?

  Why don’t you just add a few frames of the still you made to the end of the scene, essentially extending or freezing the last frame the transition to more frames of the still.

  or

  Bring your scene to a halt at the flash scene with a speed envelope and extend it a few frames place your still and transition?

  I’ve used the white generated media before but I didn’t “fade up and fade down” – instead, I ONLY faded down. Therefore, the white really pops into place.

  You might try keyframing a “glow” effect onto the beginning of the still.

  The way I did this was to zoom up very close on the beginning of the still clip…split one frame from the beginning of the event…add brightness/contrast FX to that one frame and brighten it up. Worked great for me. I also used a “camera click” audio clip right at the “flash” and it was very realistic.

  I really can’t picture what everyone is talking about here but it sounds very intriguing.

  Can someone possibly post a link of an example clip of this transition/effect? I would love to see what this is….
