Looking for shortcut key…
This question is for Edward, since he’s trod the same path I’m just going down now…
I’m currerntly working on what I hope will be my last EditDV project before forcing myself to learn Vegas.
I did the 30 day trial thing with Vegas in May and was very impressed. Similar feel, but so much more functionality, and I can see that things WILL be easier! I know it’ll take a while to become as productive as I currently am with EditDV, but once the learning curve is behind me…During the 30 day trial, I was unable to find one of the features I use all the time in EditDV: adjusting the cut/trim point between two adjacent clips. Here’s how I work in EditDV to create a program using footage of an event from two or more cameras.
1) Lay down the tracks and synch them up (usually to a camera flash)
2) Select which footage I want from which camera and copy to a new track.
3) Switch to Trim Monitor mode (short cut is 0). This presents two preview screens – the last frame of the outgoing clip and the first frame of the incoming.
4) Use the F5 – F8 keys to move the trim point (back 10 frames, back 1 frame, forward 1 frame, 10 frames respectively).
5) If I want to trim either clip indivdually (i.e. affect the overall length of the program), I can select using F9 or F11.I use this A LOT to place the cut in exactly the right place (relative to music or speech or movement).
Try as I might, I couldn’t find the equivalent in Vegas. There’s a trim function (“Trim adjacent”) that allows you to do a similar thing via mouse dragging, but I couldn’t find shortcut keys to move the trim point a specific number of frames (e.g., 1 or 10) at a time.
Is there such a feature? If so, how? If not, what can you suggest as a working method for achieving something a little more precise than dragging via the mouse? Thanks
