I tried to open one of my AVI clips using VirtualDub so that I could use the deshaker filter. I received the following error message.

‘Couldn’t locate decompressor for format ‘dvsd'(unknown).
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW)compatable codec to decompress video. Direct show codecs, such as those used my Windows Media Player, are not suitable. Only direct stream copy is available for this video.’

What does this mean? I can’t recall adding or deleting any codecs for a couple of years & I would expect that I should already have any that are needed since all other video functions are working correctly.

    Thanks in advance

Most DV codecs are WDM and VFW. Therefore you need to install a VFW DV codec.
I believe that you need the Pasasonic VFW DV codec.
    Check here for instructions.

I downloaded the codec at the location you suggested DVD help. I unzipped the file but I get no option from right clicking to install the codec as suggested at that site. Is there any other way to install the codec?

    Thanks in advance
