I’m using Vegas 6.0d and Pixelan Spicemaster. I created a preset in Vegas for the Spicemaster transition I like to use a lot. I then create a transition & use this preset. Everything is fine until I decide to move or copy those transitioned events around, like to another track, project, etc. Then, the preset seems to be ignored, and it gets replaced by default Spicemaster transition.

In the past, I’ve managed to mess up Vegas’ own transitions in a similar fashion as well, but I could never figure out what I’ve done wrong. When I apply a preset, and then re-open transition properties, I still see “(Untitled)” in the preset drop-down box. Shouldn’t it remember the preset name I’ve selected before? TIA.

Is it also forgetting the settings of the preset you used, or it only “forgetting” the name of the preset? I don’t know anything about Pixelan Spicemaster, but my experience with transitions & effects is the same as yours: You apply a preset, and then when you go back to the transition or effect properties, it says “untitled”, as if you never applied a preset. However, all of the settings of the preset remain intact. It is annoying, and I’ve always wondered if it was a bug, but the behavior remains the same through each version of Vegas I’ve used, so maybe it’s the way Sony wants it.

If you’re not only “losing” the name of the preset that you used, but also all of the settings of that preset, then I’d say there is definitely a problem.

The settings for transitions native to Vegas are remembered OK, although it’s a pain to find an odd transition (out of, say, 40) where I forgot to use the preset. Seeing the actual preset name would be much easier.

With Spicemaster, however, the actuall preset settings are lost after copying events, and that’s a real problem. I end up changing the default in Spicemaster to my preset, and then move or copy events.

I’m not sure if there is a way, but you could ask Michael Freerer at Pixelan – he’s very helpful.
