Syncing audio to video while inserting stills
A beginner’s question:-
I have a simple project with one track of video and its audio naturally synced (by default!). I want to add jpgs to it. I want the audio automatically to get pushed along the 5 seconds that each jpg lasts, so that video / audio sync is maintained…… but it doesn’t happen.
How can I change settings to make it happen every time?

If you have Ignore Event Grouping turned off (default) then wherever you move the video, its audio will follow.
Beyond that, you’ll have to explain more clearly what you are doing when things go wrong.

Thanks, Gary – success! The strange thing was that ‘Ignore Event Grouping’ appeared to be switched off, but I only got the audio to move automatically after I switched ‘Ignore..’ ON then OFF again.

Look at the “Ripple Edit” button and you’ll see a dropdown arrow beside it. Click on the arrow and change the mode. You probably want the bottom one (i.e. move EVERYTHING).
Personally, I leave ripple turned off and then press CTRL-SHIFT-F when I want to ripple everything.

Thanks! Yes, I had already realised that sometimes it is essential to have ripple edit ON, and sometimes equally crucial to have it OFF. I don’t think I’d looked at those drop-down options – that will be useful.
As for learning the keyboard shortcuts, I have been holding back because I have a Mackie Control, and I didn’t want to try learning all the keyboard shortcuts if I could use the Control. But I’m still waiting for notification that the Lexan overlay is finally available. (In fact I’ll make a nuisance of myself by asking the forum about the overlay if I can’t find mention of it in the archives.)
