  • Inserting a section into a completed timeline.

Let’s say that I have completed my Sony Vegas Studio project and now realize that I need to insert a video piece into the middle of the completed timeline. I can’t just split the timeline and slide it to the right because all that happens then is the first overlapped transition just get more overlapped. I need to “grab” the ENTIRE section after the split and slide all of it, as one completed piece, to the right. I can’t figure out how to do this. Also, if it can be done, how do I get ALL the tracks to go with the move so I don’t have to re-aligning all the other tracks with the move?

In the full version, you can:

Insert – Time – enter the proper length in the dialog.

You should also be able to use Ripple Editing to do this.

I’m using Vegas Movie Studio + DVD. Is that the “full” version??

No, Movie Studio is the “Lite” version of Sony Vegas.

Anyway, this should work fine for you:
    Hit Ctrl/A to select everything
    S to Split
Drag the now-highlighthed project elements on the right of the split
    Ctrl/Shift/A to deselect everything

You could also right click and GROUP your selection. Then split.
