Retain creation date data in new file
Posted by Ozvideo on May 12, 2006 at 12:31 amIf you look at a clips properties in the median pool you can get to see the original date that your video was shoot provided that your clock was set correctly. Unless I’m doing something wrong I don’t seem to be able to retain this data once I render my project out to another avi file. Is it possible to get this data retained or at least get the option of having the original date or the date of the creation of your new file?

May 12, 2006 at 4:48 amI don’t see why the data should be lost as soon as you start editing. Is there not some way to just add the data back in using Windows or some other program? Even EXIF file data from digital still cameras can be altered or added.

Unless I mis-understand what you said here, the original EXIF data from a digital still is lost if you alter the photo in any way. I always make a copy before doing any work on a photo. Some contests and legal photography requires the original EXIF data.
If I’m doing a video that requires the original shoot date I use a date-time stamp directly on the video. Otherwise I have a log in Excel showing clip name and original time and date of the shoot.
Your original clip is never lost unless you delete it from the HD

May 12, 2006 at 1:43 pmPlaying devil’s advocate here for a minute: suppose it DID keep original date/time and you’re editing a clip:
1) When doing cuts editing, the date/time could jump all over the place (may or may not be desirable)
2) When doing a crossfade, what date/time does the transition get? From the left clip? From the right clip? Average of the two? Current date/time?

May 13, 2006 at 1:27 amI agree that there would be times when it would not be practical to have this feature working but I was only talking about creating a new AVI file mainly assembled from AVI clips without anything extra being done to them.
I make mainly holiday videos of all of our trips. Just suppose I latter on wished to make a compilation video of all of the highlights from each old video. I would like to be be easily add the dates for each segment without having to look back at my original tapes for this data. The tape has the capacity to store this data so why not have it give you the option of carrying forwards this data or not?

May 13, 2006 at 9:40 amI don’t know any way of doing this to represent a clip by clip datestamp in a new rendered file. If you just want to create a new file with a datestamp of lets say a year ago to match the date of the original camera tape just change you PC date back to the date of your camera original before you render your new file. This new file will than have the year old datestamp. Don’t forget to change your PC date back afterwards 🙂

Just tried a little utility to change date in DV file, can change time as well. Do your render then use this utility called ‘DV Date Time Changer’. Free download at:
