    I asked this question on the Sony CineAlta HD forum and was refered to this forum I am thinking of getting the Sony PDW-F330 as it can record at a DVCAM quality what I wanted to know is when the footage is fed (played from the camera to the computer via a firewire lead) to Vegas will I have scene detection as if I had input from a DVCAM tape.

    Yes — you will have scene detection capturing in any DV capture program from XDCAM. If you are doing DV recording with the XDCAM, then you can use MXF files directly in Vegas 6.0d. No need to capture, just mount the XDCAM in FAM mode and copy the MXF files to your hard drive. XDCAM HD is not supported in Vegas 6, but it can also be downconverted to DV and captured via 1394.

    But the word is that Vegas 7 (coming out in Sept) will edit HD from DXCAM.

    Timothy hope I am following this right do you mean I can connect the XDCAM to my computer and transfer my footage from the disc to the hard drive instantly or near instantly unlike tape where it has to be played in in realtime.
    Sorry to ask this but what is FAM mode

    FAM = File Access Mode
    One explanation here.

    Yes to you question regarding XDCAM Standard Defintion. You setup your XDCAM disc in FAM (File Access Mode) and connect it to your PC via ethernet or 1394 and you then transfer the MXF files to your hard drive. After they are on your hard drive, it’s drag and drop into Vegas. Say goodbye to capture.
