  what are the laws of video compression?

  Hi there.

  Why is my 6 min video file (mpg-2 at 640 x 480 with BEST) 173 mbs in size?

  What are the laws of compression rates when it comes to rendering down a vegas project? IE: AVI vs MPG vs WMV etc. Sizing, etc. Best, Good, Preview, Draft)? For streaming purposes by the way.

  What would be ideal?

  Also, how is it when I go to fancy web-sites out there they have a video playing at high quality with really fast download times? How do they do this? IE: music video sites, movie trailers, etc.

  How can I get my 6 min video to stream as clear as possible with the fastest download time?

  The simple answer: The lower the bitrate, the smaller the file.

  For web streaming, you might want WMV instead of MPEG. Try the 512K preset and move up or down from there balancing quality and file size.

  Also to add to Edward’s comment…….the smaller the file, the lower the bitrate….the lower the quality.
