how best to record a google earth fly by?

    shoot the lcd screen?

    camtasia?

    other?

i need (for educational purposes only) to capture a zoom into. and a pan across mining areas. i’ve played with camtasia studio – but don’t seem to get a high enough frame rate 25fps for a mooth look. are there any better drop in plug ins/codecs that work with it?

shooting screen is obvious, but i lose a little sharpness….

    as ever, thanks,

CAmtasia I would think. But isn’t there a upgrade pay feature in Google Earth that would allow you to save an animation? I got the freebie also.

The easiest, if you have the budget, is to get the movie upgrade to Google Earth. Other than that Camtasia would be an option, but as you say, it’ll be hard to get the proper frame rate.

I did an intro using Google Earth on a piece for a school. Frankly I experimented with frame capture programs with the downsides/trade-offs you mentioned. I ended up shooting an LCD monitor in DV at 60i and cleaning it up with filters in Vegas. Looked fine and best off all didn’t take a lot of time and effort in post. Good Luck.

FRAPS is perfect for this. Not free, but cheap.
