Posted question about DVD-RW disc used in Sony Handycam earlier this week.
Vegas would not recognize it. Then I found out, thanks to Edward T., that the client on the other side of the country hadn’t bother to “finalize” disc.
That is done and, as recommended by Edward T. I rendered it to .avi.
It looks pretty bad! Quality is poor. Have i done something wrong here.
Or is marginal quality something we can expect with this format.

You’re starting with a very compressed Mpeg2 file. The first question is, how does it look before converting to avi? The second question is WHY are you converting it to avi?

“I meant to pull the MPEG2 import onto the timeline and then render it to DV-AVI. Now just delete the MPEG2 import and edit using the new DV-AVI file.”

This was Edward’s suggestion form earlier.

DV-AVI is easier to edit than MPEG2. However, you can directly edit the MPEG2 and then do your final render. Either way, the render to DV-AVI should NOT look worse than the original. There has to be more to this picture somewhere.

I think these cams are made for the consumers who want to just be able to record to the cam disk and play it back on their home DVD player. They are not made for editing. I have a friend that has one of these DVD based cameras and he says he hates it. Some must like them though since there is a market for them.
