  • Odd Compositing Problem

Posted by Digdug on January 13, 2006 at 6:26 am

I have been trying to get Vegas to do a multi layer composite by dropping an alpha channel mask on ch 1, an image on ch 2 and video on ch 3. I have made ch 2 a child to ch 1, set the composite mode to mask, then added a mask generator to ch 1. The alpha channel mask is a photoshop file created by adding the mask area over a transparent background. When I do the composite, I would like to see the image (ch2) supered over the footage (ch3), but I get odd transparencies, images that are 50% the lumenance, etc. What am I doing wrong? Any tips or tutorials would be appreciated.

    thanks,

Track 1: Mask (Assuming WHITE on TRANSPARENT background) with track compositing mode on Multiply (Mask)
Track 2: Clip to appear in the mask set to be a child of track 1
Track 3: Clip to appear in the “Transparent” area

I do this using text in Vol 2 #5 of my newsletters.

Thanks for the help. What file format are you saving your mask as? I have been using a photoshop file, with the mask generator set to alpha, but have the same result. When I create a greyscale image, set the generator to luminance, I get the same result. It has me perplexed.
