I just got a Canopus ACEDVio card to install in a computer I am building. I will be using Vegas for video editing. The Canopus card comes with ACEDV Controller software, which has optons for adjusting image and audio settings. Do I need this software, since I will be using Vegas?

One other question. The installation manual says not to use the 4-pin power connector if you are not using a bus-powered device with the card. I will only be using the card to connect camcorders which are powered by an adapter plugged into the wall socket. Given that, I assume I do not use the 4-pin connector. Is that right?

I have the ACEDVio card I use with Vegas all the time. Great card. I never installed the software. I think it’s mostly just for adjusting analog signals such as VCR tapes, etc. And you can do any adjustments to that once in Vegas. If you do adjustments during capture, you’re stuck with the changes. As for the connector, I use the 4 pin connector with my Sony VX2100…works great. The 4 pin is data only whereas the 6 pin is powered. Since a camera has it’s own power source you can use the 4 pin. But you can also use the 6 pin jack also without problems, either one will work fine.

Do you have the 4-pin power connector hooked up?

    I hear what your saying.
I have a Belkin (TI chipset) fire wire card in my tower with a legacy 4 pin power connecter on it.
It’s sole purpose is to route power from your power supply in the tower to the extra 2 pins on your firewire jack. This is mostly used for external drives with a 6 pin connecter on them. This alleviates having to use the power supply that came with the drive.

If your are using a 6 pin cable that turns into 4 pin which goes into your camera then the power wont get there anyways. the 2 extra “power” pins never get there. Thats the reason that the camera is 4 pin. It doesnt use the same power. also prevents accidental problems.
so unless you need the extra power to run a hard drive…dont worry about it.
    Hope this helps

Sorry Stephen, no, I never hooked up the power supply connector on the card. As Zip stated it only supplies power to 6 pin firewire connector.
