I’m redering a video right now, it’s taking about 25 hours. And I can’t help but wonder why is it that on TV it cuts off anything outside of the TV safe field. Does that mean that on Computers you can see anything inside the field? I wondering because, I’ve edited the video so that anything outside the TV safe zone is considered unviewable, so sometimes you only see black, and othert times, you see the second video behind it. Is there any way to get what plays on the TV to be the same as what plays on the Computer…and it may be a little late, but what do I do now that I’ve been using the TV safe frame as my imaginal border, that anything outside of it won’t be considered?

    Thanks for any help

Yes, a computer will show the “safe area”. Always best to plan on being able to see the safe area BUT don’t put anything important in the safe area so it still works fine on TVs.

So, at this point in editing, where I’ve already done everything…is my best option to get rid of stuff outside of the inside tv safe border to just put a black mask? This way, if it is viewed on a computer, they’ll just see a black border. Do you have any other better ideas for this situation? Thanks again… (BTW, thanks very much for your newsletters on your site, they’re explaining a lot of stuff)

That would definitely be one way of handling it. It would be an easy solution at this point.

Also, do not forget that with newer TVs, you may also see what lies outside the “safe zone”. A 16:9 TV showing a 4:3 video for example, may show as much of your left and right of your video as you see on the computer. The top and bottom may still be cut a little bit.

With all the ways of watching your video these days you have to assume that everything you create will be seen, and treat the safe zone as what it is, the area of your video that most likely everybody will see, and therefore where you put everything that is relevant.
