  settings for the most high quality video

  what should the settings be for the VERY BEST video. i need to know the settings for the project properties, the best settings for capture and the best settings for rendering.

  Not to be a smart-ass, but Best for what? That’s a term that needs a context.

  What type of media? DV, HDV, computer generated?
  What type of output? Tape, DVD, computer-based?

  Do you have a time constraint, or does the render time matter to you?

  sorry i should’ve specified that

  i am using dv and i want to output to dvd, no time constraint.

  file size doesnt really matter either but i dont want as it’s not a 100 gig file for 10 minutes of video

  Well, the best you can get would be to capture as DV (cause that’s what you’ve got) and then render direct from the timeline to MPEG2. This way there’s no rencoding as DV (in your transitions, for instance). This should be about the same as rendering as uncompressed and then rendering to mpeg2. The difference here is that you don’t get an actual uncompressed AVI file on your hard drive, and you skip a step.

  There might be an advantage to having the rendered uncompressed master if you need to go back and add titles or something, but I think you could do without it.
